Climate

Auckland has a warm-temperate climate with typical daytime temperatures ranging from 12 – 20 degrees Celsius in April

Conference App

A Conference App is available for Android and Apple devices. An email with your personal download information will be sent to you one week prior to the Conference. 

Currency/Banking

The currency used is New Zealand dollar. Banking hours are usually 0900 -1600hrs, Monday to Friday. Automatic Teller Machines are well spread throughout Auckland. International credit cards are accepted throughout the country banks, most hotels and city stores

Good and Services Tax

Goods and Services in New Zealand are subject to a 15% tax (GST). This tax is usually included in the price and if not, it is clearly stated. This tax cannot be claimed back by visitors, when leaving the country

Insurance

It is strongly recommended that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover the duration of your visit to New Zealand and to protect against cancellation charges, loss or damage to your luggage and personal effects, loss of cash and medical expenses

Internet Facilities

Wireless Internet is offered complimentary to all guests’ of SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre. The wireless internet will only work within the Convention Centre and not outside, within SKYCITY or Grand Hotel or main site of SKYCITY.

You do not require a username or password to log in. The SSID Networking Name is SKYCITY Conventions Free Wifi.

Name Badges

Name badges will be given to all delegates on registration. We ask that you wear your badge at all times, including social functions. Entry tickets will be given for all social and optional events

New Zealand Biosecurity

New Zealand has a national biosecurity system that is considered one of the most robust in the world. Please note that all food, plant and animal material (such as feathers, skins or bone) must be declared on arrival and will be checked by officials. Many food items are prohibited, especially fresh fruit and vegetables.  

You will be handed a New Zealand arrival card during your flight. Please complete this prior to landing and have this available once you have passed through customs.

You will need to declare items such as golf shoes and hiking boots. These need to be free of any soil or plant materials otherwise staff may take these way for cleaning and charge for this service. Some people like to carry these items in their carry on bag, otherwise they may been to be taken out of your luggage and checked by biosecurity staff.

All bags are x-rayed on arrival by the Ministry for Primary Industries and instant fines are given to anyone who has failed to declare prohibited items. This is to ensure that New Zealand is kept free of dangerous pests and disease which could jeopardise our important horticultural and agricultural industries.

Parking

Ample parking is available in the SKYCITY main site car park.  By visiting the Business Services Desk on Level 4, you can purchase a ‘One Shot’ car park ticket for $20.00 which is valid for a single entry and exit. This can be purchased after you have entered the car park. The Business Services desk is open between 9:00am and 5.00pm, Tuesday–Sunday. Visit the SkyCity Convention Centre website for more information.

Please note that there are a number of improvements being made to the city around the SkyCity area. These improvements may cause traffic delays. 

Registration Desk

Your registration pack will be available for collection from the registration desk on Level 5, SkyCity Convention Centre.

The Registration and Information Desk will be open at the following times:
Thursday 6 April      0800 - 2000 hrs
Friday 7 April           0730 - 1900 hrs
Saturday 8 April      0730 - 1800 hrs
Sunday 9 April        0730 - 1300 hrs

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited within SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre. The nearest dedicated smoking balcony is located on level 3 of the main SKYCITY Auckland site, adjacent to the air bridge. 

Please note you cannot smoke inside NZ restaurants, bars or hotel rooms. Most restaurants have a designated smoking area.

Tours

If you have purchased a ticket to one of the tours, you will receive an email prior to the Conference which will include all details for your tour. Please meet in the lobby of the SkyCity Hotel 15 minutes prior to your tour departure time.

Transport from Auckland Airport to the City

There are many transport options available between Auckland Airport and Auckland City. Taxi, shuttle and bus services are located outside the arrivals area at the international terminal (door 8) and outside the Jetstar forecourt at the domestic terminal. The transport options available between Auckland Airport and Auckland City include:

Taxis
A taxi fare to the city centre is between NZ$75-NZ$90 one way. For specific pricing or to book a meet and greet service please contact directly:

Shuttles
Super Shuttle offer a shared transport shuttle service for approximately $33 for one person and $8 for each additional person in the same group. Bookings can be made through Super Shuttle online: www.supershuttle.co.nz or by phone +64 9 522 5100.

Bus
SkyBus is a public transport service operating 24 hours a day offering two routes from the Airport to the central city. The trip will take approximately 40-60 minutes depending on traffic conditions and costs $18 one way or $32 return. Tickets are available to purchase from the Airport Ticket Kiosks, from the driver (cash only), or book online at www.skybus.co.nz.

Time Zone

New Zealand is one of the first places in the world to see the new day, 12 hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)

Travel

If your travel itinerary includes a transit stop in Australia you may need an Australian Transit Visa. Details about this and how to apply can be found here. Failure to obtain this visa in advance of your travel may result in you being unable to board your aircraft

Vaccinations

No vaccinations are required to enter New Zealand

Visa Information

All visitors to New Zealand must have a passport which is valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay in New Zealand. Visa information and the visa application form are available on www.immigration.govt.nz. If you require a Visitor’s Visa, please allow at least 5-6 weeks for processing.

Visa Waiver Countries

Citizens of some countries do not need to apply for a visa before travelling to New Zealand, view the list of visa waiver countries here.

If you are a citizen of a country which has a visa waiver agreement with New Zealand, you do not need to apply for a visa to visit New Zealand but you must:

  • Hold a valid ticket from New Zealand to a country where you have the right of entry
  • Have sufficient money to support yourself during your stay in New Zealand
  • Hold a passport valid for 3 months beyond the date you intend leaving New Zealand
  • Remain in New Zealand only for the time granted on your arrival

Fast and efficient travel for business people within the APEC region contributes to APEC's goal of free and open trade and investment. To this end APEC has created an APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC). The ABTC allows business travellers pre-cleared, facilitated short-term entry to participating member economies. The ABTC removes the need to individually apply for visas or entry permits, saving valuable time, and allows multiple entries into participating economies during the three years the card is valid. Card holders also benefit from faster immigration processing on arrival via access to fast-track entry and exit through special APEC lanes at major airports in participating economies.

The ABTC also helps to enhance border integrity and security in participating economies by providing benefits to border agencies as it increases the number of low risk travellers since each applicant is checked against 'watch lists' of other participating economies. Therefore, it carries savings not only for business people but for governments, too.

APEC member economies fully participating in the scheme include Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Canada and the United States are transitional members of the scheme.

Canada is still working towards issuing cards to its own citizens. In the United States, legislation has been passed authorizing the issuance of ABTCs to eligible persons. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is in the process of commencing card issuance.

Since the creation of the scheme, in 1997, data indicates that the growth rate has continued to accelerate steadily. In 2007 the increase in applications received by the participating economies was more than 100% on a year-on-year basis. By March 2008, the active number of cards was more than 34,000, with the highest share reported by Australia (nearly 40% of the total amount issued).

In addition, according to the APEC Policy Support Unit study on “The Impact of Business Mobility in Reducing Trade Transaction Costs in APEC”, the ABTC scheme reduced transaction costs for ABTC holders by 38% between March-July 2010 and March-July 2011, representing a total savings of USD3.7 million. Total at-the-border immigration time savings experienced by ABTC holders for the period March-July 2010 through March-July 2011 is 62,413 hours, a monetary value of USD1.9 million.
